Hans Jürgen Klitsch: Shakin' All Over - Die Beatmusik in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland 1963-1967

German, DIN A4, hardcover, 488 pages | 2001 original edition | book: NM (mint-) as NEW!!

Beat Music in the Federal Republic of Germany 1963-67 After the seismic waves of rock 'n' roll had ebbed at the beginning of the sixties and the hit parades were once again filled with tearjerkers, live bands carried the fire of unbridled music and attitude to life further. When the beat wave hit the UK in 1963 - triggered by the phenomenal success of the Beatles - the afterburner was switched on for popular music. Groups sprang up like mushrooms, and tens of thousands of young people suddenly had a new dream: to play in a beat band, to let their hair grow and make the girls scream. The Federal Republic of Germany also played its part in the beat.

Not only did hundreds of British groups polish their style in German clubs before they started their careers at home, but here in Germany there were suddenly thousands of bands within a few years: they are the stars of 'Shakin'All Over'. Over three years in the making - that means: extensive research, nationwide research trips, astronomical telephone costs, hundreds of interviews.

On 488 large-format pages about 2800 beat bands are presented, with band stories, detailed discographies and a vast amount of unpublished photos. More than two dozen articles on the most diverse phenomena of the beat culture of the time capture the spirit of the times and the ecstasy of those formative years. Shakin' All Over' is therefore not only a socio-cultural history of the sixties, but also the family album of a generation out of touch. This book finally puts the Federal Republic of Germany as a beatnation on the international map!
