This UK, Manchester-based group first appeared with the punchy, guitar-dominated ‘Take Your Time, Yeah!’, featured on a flexi-disc given away free with the city’s Debris magazine in 1986. In November of the same year the track fronted their first vinyl single on the Remorse label, but although it was well received, Laugh had to wait until August the following year before their second offering appeared, a decidedly poppy effort entitled ‘Paul McCartney’. This had been previewed on a 1986 session for disc jockey John Peel, and also featured the assistance of Smiths guitarist Craig Gannon. After ‘Time To Lose’ in 1988, which reached the UK Independent Top 30, the band moved to the short-lived Sub Aqua label for Sensation No. 1, the title of both the album and a single. Neither made any significant impact and Martin Mittler (bass), Spencer Birtwhistle (drums), Ian Bendelow (guitar) and Martin Wright (guitar/vocals) rethought their strategy, later emerging as a dance outfit.
